Vice Chancellors of Nigeria Federal and State Universities should as a matter of urgent National Importance be\u00a0 probe by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over mismanagement of development\u00a0 funds,President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Comra Prince Miaphen has said.<\/p>\n
Miaphen also requested the EFCC, ICPC and other anti corruption agencies in the country to investigate mismanagement of fund by Federal and state Polytechnics, colleges of education as well as other tertiary institutions across Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Speaking to reporters today in Maiduguri, the NANS president said there\u00a0 must be transparency and accountability in the way monies meant\u00a0 development projects are utilise by various schools management.<\/p>\n
” The condition of educational facilities in most of the schools that I have visited is in a total mess. This ugly trend must not continue unabated hence\u00a0 the anti graft bodies by must rise up to check the excesses of some schools management and rescue our education from total collapse.”
\nMiaphen stated.<\/p>\n
He commended President Goodluck Jonathan for according the education sector the desired priority but insisted that ” budgetary provisions to the education sector must be commensurate to visible projects on ground in our various Institutions”.<\/p>\n
The NANS President who visited\u00a0 the Shehu of Borno Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Garbai El-Kanemi in his palace urge the federal government to take advantage of the cease fire by the Boko Haram sect and ensured fruitful dialogue.<\/p>\n
“For a very long time, some federal government officials were saying the Boko Haram is a faceless group but we are gladdened that the faceless is now visible. It is evident that the group had sat and reached a truce with the Borno State government and the Borno Elders. We feel the FG should consolidate this gain,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Some people said Maiduguri is a no go area but I am deeply touched by the travails of the people that are living here which makes it necessary for me to come. We appreciate the role of traditional institutions in ensuring that peace is sustained,” he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
