Rivers state governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has said the Peoples<\/div>\n
\n
Democratic Party (PDP), will not give its presidential ticket to any
\ncandidate who will serve only the interest of the wealthy few in
\nNigeria.<\/p>\n

The governor said some desperate politicians are already scheming for a
\ncandidate who will not serve the interest of the many, rather the
\ninterest of just those of the wealthy few.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike made the assertion at a grand reception organised in his
\nhonour by the people of Kalabari ethnic nationality at the Abalama
\nSchool field in Asari Toru Local Government Area on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The governor was conferred a traditional title of Se- Ibidokibo of
\nKalabari land (He who does good things for Kalabari people) and was
\nperformed by the Amayanabo of Abonnema, King Gboko Desreal Bob-manuel.<\/p>\n

His word: “No amount of gang up can make PDP to give somebody who will
\nwant to run election for the interest of some big men, and not for all
\nNigerians.<\/p>\n

“Anybody who wants to be candidate of PDP must be candidate for the
\ninterest of Nigerians.”<\/p>\n

He expressed concerns over the fact that some companies in the country
\ncontinue to post annual financial profits regularly in a downing
\nnational economy to the detriment of the poor.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike opined that such profits, invariably, shared only by the
\nrich, make them to get richer, while the majority of the population of
\nthe country, who are poor, gets poorer<\/p>\n

He reiterated that the stakeholders in Southern will soon make a
\ndeclarative statement concerning 2023 presidential election.<\/p>\n

“The day the South will speak, Nigeria will shake. We believe in the
\nunity of this country, but nobody can threaten us. Nobody should
\nthreaten us. We believe in the unity of Nigeria and unity of Nigeria
\nmust continue.”<\/p>\n

The governor lampooned Rivers politicians serving in the President
\nMuhammadu Buhari’s administration for their gross inability to attract
\nfederal government projects to the State.<\/p>\n

Concerning the next governorship of Rivers State, Governor Wike said
\neverybody is entitled to aspire to be the next governor, but such person
\nmust show capacity for that office and be well disposed to protect the
\ninterest of the State.<\/p>\n

He told the Kalabari people, specifically, that they’ve have not done
\nwell in terms of loving themselves and working in unity.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike said it is only a united people who can speak with one
\nvoice that can stand up to make demands. He therefore, urged them to put
\ntheir house in order.<\/p>\n

The governor announced the extension of dateline of completion of the
\nTrans Kalabari road phase one project by two months owing to the loss
\nperiod when workmen were kidnapped on site.<\/p>\n

He disclosed that if the finance of the state improves, his
\nadministration may award the phase two of the Trans Kalabari road before
\nhe leaves office next year.<\/p>\n

The governor, while cancelling the contract for the reconstruction of
\nKalabari National College due to foreseen politics, announce the release
\nof more fund for the Maryhood Girls Secondary school in the area to
\nspeed up its completion.<\/p>\n

In his welcome address, Chairman of Rivers State Elders Forum, Chief
\nFerdinand Anabraba explained that the grand reception is significant for
\ntwo reasons; of its critical importance to them as a people and also
\nbecause of the unity of purpose engendered among them under the Wike’s
\nadministration<\/p>\n

He said it is that kind of reception organised for prominent sons and
\nfriends who have impacted the Kalabari people.<\/p>\n

Chief Anabraba noted that Governor Wike has systematically fulfilled all
\npromises made to them including those of development projects and
\nappointment of Kalabari people into his administration.<\/p>\n

He listed some of the projects completed or ongoing to include the phase
\n1 of Trans -Kalabari Road project other administration promises but
\nfailed to execute for over 17 years, the\u00a0 rehabilitation and equipping
\nof zonal and general hospitals, secondary schools, Abonnema Ring road,
\nsandfilling in Obonoma,\u00a0 Abonnema,\u00a0 Bakana and Oboama, Abalama
\ncommunities.<\/p>\n

Also speaking, the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Port
\nHarcourt, Prof. Nimi Briggs opined that Kalabari people have
\nenthusiastically and with relentless vigor, contributed to the growth
\nand development of Rivers State and Nigeria.<\/p>\n

It follows therefore, according to him, that it is appropriate, and
\nshould be considered right thing for the Kalabari people to expect
\nreturn for the dues that they had paid.<\/p>\n

On his part, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs said the Kalabari people are
\nexpecting Governor Wike to also ensure that Kalabari people are brought
\nout from the political wilderness in 2023.<\/p>\n

A human rights activist, Ann Kio-Briggs noted that Rivers State, though
\na complex place to govern does not mean that the people do not love each
\nother.<\/p>\n

She however, harped on greater unity among the people while urging
\nGovernor Wike not to relent in what he is doing for the Kalabari people,
\nthe State and the region.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
