{"id":92060,"date":"2022-02-22T14:38:31","date_gmt":"2022-02-22T13:38:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=92060"},"modified":"2022-02-22T14:38:31","modified_gmt":"2022-02-22T13:38:31","slug":"n450m-diezani-bribe-court-jails-ex-minister-sarah-ochekpe-two-others-6yrs-in-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/n450m-diezani-bribe-court-jails-ex-minister-sarah-ochekpe-two-others-6yrs-in-prison\/","title":{"rendered":"N450m Diezani Bribe:\u00a0Court Jails\u00a0Ex- Minister, Sarah Ochekpe, Two Others 6yrs in Prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Gombe Zonal Command has secured the conviction of a former Minister of Water Resources in the administration former President Goodluck Jonathan, Sarah Ochekpe and two others, Evan Leo Sunday Jitong and Raymond Dabo, deputy director for Goodluck\/Sambo 2015 election campaign and former Acting Chairman of PDP, Plateau State respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The trio were convicted and sentenced to six years imprisonment each by Justice H. M. Kurya of the Federal High Court, Jos, Plateau State, on an amended three &#8211; count charge bordering on conspiracy and money\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">laundering.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">They were alleged to have received the sum of N450million from Fidelity Bank Plc through cash and wire transfer by some oil companies and former Petroleum Resources Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to influence the outcome of the 2015 presidential election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Investigation had \u00a0showed that, \u00a0on the March 26, 2015, the sum of N450million were withdrawn from the \u00a0Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, by Fidelity Bank Plc Jos main branch and it was handed over to the defendants in cash after they signed for collection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Though the defendants claimed that they handed over the money to late Senator Gyang Pwajok, the Plateau State PDP Governorship candidate in 2015, they however failed to provide any evidence to support the claim.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Count one of the charge reads:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u201c<b><i>That you, SARAH RINGIM OCHEKPE, EVAN LEO SUNDAY JITONG, RAYMOND DABO sometime in March, 2015 at Jos, Plateau state of Nigeria within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, without going through the Financial Institution, did conspire amongst yourselves to accept cash payment of the sum of Four Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N450,000,000.00) from one ANNET OLIJE GYEN, Head of Operations, Jos branch of Fidelity Bank Plc which sum exceeded the amount authorised by Law and thereby committed an offence contrary to the provisions of Section 18 (a), Section 16 (1) (d) of the Money Laundering\u00a0 (prohibition) Act 2012 (as amended) and Punishable under Section 16 (2) (b) of the same Act.<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0The defendants were convicted on count one, \u00a0bordering on \u00a0conspiracy to accept cash payment above\u00a0 threshold under the Money Laundering Prohibition Act, 2012 (as amended) and sentenced to \u00a0three (3) years imprisonment with an option of N2,000,000.00 (Two Million Naira) fine each.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0On count two, the defendants were convicted and sentenced to three (3) years imprisonment with an option of N2, 000,000 (Two Million Naira) fine each.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The sentences are to run consecutively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0The Court discharged and acquitted them on count three which borders on retention of funds.<\/span><\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Gombe Zonal Command has secured the conviction of a former Minister of Water Resources in the administration former President Goodluck Jonathan, Sarah Ochekpe&hellip;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":92061,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-92060","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-exclusive"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
