{"id":92072,"date":"2022-02-23T09:23:32","date_gmt":"2022-02-23T08:23:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=92072"},"modified":"2022-02-23T09:23:32","modified_gmt":"2022-02-23T08:23:32","slug":"nigeria-records-2038-deaths-to-air-crashes-in-53-years-aib","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/nigeria-records-2038-deaths-to-air-crashes-in-53-years-aib\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria Records 2,038 Deaths To Air Crashes In 53 years \u2013 AIB"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A total of 2,038 persons died in air accidents in Nigeria in 53 years between 1969 and 2002.<\/p>\n<p>The Accident Investigation Bureau, Nigeria (AIB-N) gave the figure in Abuja when its commissioner, Mr. Akin Olateru, addressed newsmen.<\/p>\n<p>The news conference held to mark the 2022 International Day for the commemoration of air crash victims and their families.<\/p>\n<p>Olateru said 1,996 of the victims died on board aircraft, while 42 passengers died on ground.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAviation is a very important part of global economy. I want to state unequivocally, that I consider the avoidable loss of lives as unacceptable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen an aircraft accident or serious incident occurs, it is always an unexpected and mostly fatal event that causes great distress and loss to victims and their families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the reason that we, at AIB-N, are determined to continue to extend the frontiers of safety in the aviation sector,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Olateru said the bureau was ready to employ the latest technology and the most qualified personnel to thoroughly investigate past occurrences.<\/p>\n<p>He said appropriate recommendations would be made from the investigation of past occurrences to avert recurrence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will ensure that we continue to review and improve our processes and procedures to reduce casualties associated with transportation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will provide information and other support systems necessary to fulfil our mandate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith advancement in technology, it is our aim to achieve higher safety standards and ensure fewer fatal incidents in the future,\u2019\u2019 Olateru said.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A total of 2,038 persons died in air accidents in Nigeria in 53 years between 1969 and 2002.
