The four major opposition political parties have finally collapsed into the All Progressive Congress, (APC).<\/p>\n
The parties comprising, All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), achieved this feat on Wednesday after representatives met in Abuja. The meeting actually started on Tuesday and continued on Wednesday, in Maitama Abuja.<\/p>\n
The four parties have been\u00a0 working to float a mega platform to oust the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015.<\/p>\n
This is also coming less than 24 hours after ten opposition party governors, including Rochas Okorocha of APGA, all the ACN governors in the south west, Kashim Shetima of ANPP, among other met behind closed door on Tuesday in Lagos, and endorsed the merger.<\/p>\n
However, according to a communiqu\u00e9 signed by the representatives of the four parties, in Abuja on Wednesday, the APC said “the adoption of the new name is to satisfy the urgent national need for a party that will give the disillusioned citizens of the country a recipe for peace and stability.<\/p>\n
The party underscored its commitment to the principles of internal democracy, as well as focusing on serious issues that concern the wellbeing of Nigerians adding also that they are determined to bring corruption and insecurity to an end.<\/p>\n
APC said part of its priority “will be to grow the economy and create millions of jobs through effective education, housing, agriculture, industrial growth,” stressing that “this will check the increasing mood of despair and hopelessness among Nigerians.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe resolution of these issues, the restoration of hope, the enthronement of true democratic values for peace, democracy and justice are those concerns which propel us\u201d, the communiqu\u00e9 read.<\/p>\n
APC expressed confidence that the new government which APC will form in 2015, will restore the dignity and position of Nigeria as a country of pre-eminence among the committee of nations.<\/p>\n
However, the merger had been earlier delayed by one day (Tuesday) as members of the ACN and CPC merger committees demanded that the representatives of APGA and ANPP be involved to give the party a national outlook .<\/p>\n
Nonetheless, the next step for the APC is to undergo registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which would be sequel to submission of the four parties certificates of registration to INEC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
