Worried by the political tension stirred up by the agitation for power to the South, the Forum of Northern Elders for Unity (FNEU) has resolved to back Governor Ugwuanyi as a sole candidate from the People\u2019s Democratic Party (PDP)\u00a0 for the position of President come 2023.<\/p>\n

According to the Elders Forum, first, because PDP\u00a0 during its reign of power, was able to provide an all-inclusive government for a united Nigeria and secondly, it is now 22 years since Nigeria returned to democracy, and it\u2019s unfair that the Igbo have not been considered for either position of the\u00a0 President or Vice President.<\/p>\n

\u201cPart of the reasons for our meeting today is to create a unifying platform for consultation that will help douse the tension created by some power-hungry and selfish politicians, who want to destroy the one\u00a0 Nigeria our forefathers toiled to build.\u201d the Elders stated.<\/p>\n

In a Communique issued after the\u00a0 \u201cRestore Unity of Nigeria (RUN) Project,\u201d meeting held in Kaduna on Monday, the Northern Elders Forum for Unity said the ruling party, All Progressives Congress has a Northerner as President now and it will only be fair and democratic to return power to the South, especially Southeast because the Igbo have been politically marginalized.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Communique was jointly signed by Chairman and Secretary of FNEU, Alhaji Baba Mala and Mal. Yau Aliyu respectively, the Forum urged the main opposition party, PDP to give its Presidential Ticket to Enugu State Governor, Mr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi because of his antecedence as a leader with a passion for peace, progress and unity of the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have studied all the Governors in the South-East and discovered that Governor Ugwuanyi is a bridge builder and visionary leader that we can trust with power.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd\u00a0 If PDP wants to win the 2023 Presidential\u00a0 election, it should consider giving its ticket to Governor Ugwuanyi and we are prepared to work and ensure that his\u00a0 victory at the polls is guaranteed.<\/p>\n

\u201cUgwuanyi has a proven track record as one of the Governors, who has worked passionately to protect lives and properties of Northerners and settlers; created employment for all regardless of tribe and religion since he assumed office, a feat worthy of note.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe therefore call on all Igbo and southerners\u00a0 to join NEFU\u2019s Project \u201d Restore Unity of Nigeria Now\u201d and beg Nigerians across the geo-political zones\u00a0 to support our bid for a United Nigeria with the best Presidential Candidate come 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are from an advantaged region with\u00a0 numerical voting\u00a0 strength to decide who becomes Nigeria\u2019s President, thus we will continue\u00a0 to meet to\u00a0 work out the\u00a0 solutions to douse the\u00a0 tension that arose due to the seeming\u00a0 power tussle .\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
