The partnership for the project between Julius Berger and the NLNG began two\u00a0years\u00a0earlier when both corporations\u00a0came\u00a0together\u00a0to\u00a0sign\u00a0a Memorandum of Understanding\u00a0at Grand Bonny\u00a0to\u00a0commence the\u00a0reconstruction\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0historic\u00a0\u00a0Bonny\u00a0Consulate\u00a0Building.<\/u><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

At the project commissioning ceremony on Saturday, 5 March 2022, both Managing Directors of Julius Berger and the NLNG, Engr. Dr. Lars Richter and Dr. Philip Mshelbila, respectively, celebrated the good relationship between the companies and the Bonny community.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

Richter, who described the project as far-reaching in significance, also said it has a potential to boost the prominence of Bonny Island. He recalled that way back in the 15th<\/sup>\u00a0century,\u00a0Bonny was a major international trading post, which in the course of time has transformed into a central hub renowned for natural gas exploration and production in\u00a0Nigeria.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

Richter traced the relationship between Julius Berger and the Grand\u00a0 Bonny Kingdom to the mid-1990’s, that is, over 20 years to date, when as a major contractor, the company was entrusted with the development of\u00a0 infrastructural work for NLNG’s first liquefied natural gas plant on Bonny Island. Since entering the Isnad, Julius Berger, he added, has\u00a0\u201ccontinuously and harmoniously working on significant projects on the Island, including most recently, the construction of the Bodo-Bonny Road, which shall soon be the first road link into Bonny Island, and which, upon completion, will serve as a catalyst for the continued success of the Island and the greater advancement of the Niger Delta.\u201d<\/i><\/b><\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

<\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

Speaking further, Richter said,\u00a0\u201c\u2026partnering with NLNG for the reconstruction of the Bonny Consulate\u00a0Building,\u00a0has\u00a0provided\u00a0Julius\u00a0Berger\u00a0the\u00a0opportunity to deepen (Julius Berger\u2019s) CSR\u00a0efforts, and to\u00a0contribute\u00a0towards\u00a0preserving\u00a0the\u00a0rich\u00a0history\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0Island,\u00a0by applying\u00a0our\u00a0knowhow\u00a0and\u00a0expertise\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0development\u00a0of a purposeful building\u00a0infrastructure.\u201d\u00a0<\/i><\/b>With brimming professional confidence, the Julius Berger Managing Director added that,\u00a0\u201c\u2026we\u00a0constructed\u00a0the\u00a0consulate\u00a0according\u00a0to\u00a0our\u00a0trusted standards of quality, reliability and\u00a0high-value\u00a0partnership\u201d<\/i><\/b>.\u00a0<\/b>The\u00a0aim, he emphasized, is\u00a0to\u00a0ensure\u00a0the\u00a0greatest\u00a0integrity\u00a0in\u00a0restoring\u00a0the memory of the original Consulate Building while\u00a0also\u00a0delivering\u00a0a\u00a0highly\u00a0functioning\u00a0structure\u00a0that\u00a0futuristically stands to\u00a0support\u00a0the\u00a0aspirations\u00a0of\u00a0His\u00a0Royal\u00a0Majesty,\u00a0to diversify\u00a0the\u00a0economy\u00a0of\u00a0the Grand\u00a0Bonny\u00a0Kingdom\u00a0through\u00a0tourism.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Saying that Julius Berger is\u00a0honoured\u00a0to\u00a0partner\u00a0with\u00a0NLNG\u00a0for\u00a0construction\u00a0of\u00a0the Bodo-Bonny Road and the Bonny Consulate Building considering the socio-economic impact of both\u00a0projects, Engr. Dr. Richter on\u00a0behalf\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0Board and\u00a0entire\u00a0management\u00a0of\u00a0Julius\u00a0Berger,\u00a0thanked NLNG for their\u00a0collaboration, which he said\u00a0\u201cstands\u00a0strong\u00a0and\u00a0proud<\/i><\/b>\u00a0to\u00a0support\u00a0the\u00a0continued\u00a0development\u00a0of Bonny\u00a0Island….\u201d<\/i><\/b><\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Richter also\u00a0thanked the King and people of the ancient Grand of Bonny Kingdom for their continued trust and cooperation.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

The Governor of Rivers State His Excellency, Chief Nyesom Wike, ably represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo, His Royal Majesty King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, JP, CON, Perekule XI, the Amayanabo of Grand Bonny Kingdom, the chairman of the Bonny Council of Chiefs, Chief (Ambassador) Claude Dagogo-Wilcox, the Managing Director of the NLNG, Dr. Philip Mshelbila, and other important dignitaries at the commissioning ceremony also celebrated and praised the developmental Julius Berger-NLNG CSR partnership, which in a timely, qualitative and with exemplary professionalism and show of respect for communal values, successfully delivered the Bonny Consulate Building as desirably conceived.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n
