The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Anambra state chapter crisis got\u00a0 messier as faction loyal to Chief Chris Uba has suspended the acting Chairman of the party in the state, Mr Okey Asolo.<\/p>\n
Chairman of the Ndubisi Nwobu-led faction of PDP, Asolo had on April 2 suspended Uba and Chief Linus Ukachukwu for anti-party activities and three \u00a0days after those loyal to Uba slammed\u00a0 suspension on Asolo.<\/p>\n
PDP in a Communiqu\u00e9\u00a0 after meeting on Monday signed by Mr Alex Anah and Mr Chigbo Onyia,\u00a0 it\u2019s chairman and secretary respectively on Tuesday in Awka Anambra state capital said that Asolo has no ground to be the party state chairman.<\/p>\n
According to them, Asolo has been\u00a0 suspended from his Ward (13) Onitsha North Local Government Area of the state for\u00a0 violation of party constitution.<\/p>\n
The party said the suspension of Asolo was anchored on the provisions of Article 58 (1) and 59 (1) and (2) of the PDP Constitution 2017 as amended.<\/p>\n
It also said that the\u00a0 suspension was upheld by the Onitsha North LGA chapter of the party which met on Monday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe received notice of suspension of Comrade Okey Asolo from his Ward (13) PDP, Onitsha North Local\u00a0 Government Area, of Anambra State dated 3rd April, 2022.<\/p>\n
Consequently Onitsha North Local Government Executive of the PDP held a meeting on April 4 and deeply considered the notice.<\/p>\n
“We came to the conclusion that Comrade Okey Asolo actually violated the provisions of the PDP Constitution 2017 as amended, by his actions and we upheld the said suspension and was\u00a0 equally suspended\u00a0 in the Onitsha North Local Government Area PDP of Anambra State\u201d it stated .<\/p>\n
In another development, a group, Forum of Elected Local Government Chairmen in Anambra has dissociated itself from the suspension of Uba and Ukachukwu.<\/p>\n
The group had written to the national leadership of the party according to\u00a0 a communiqu\u00e9 signed by 14 members elected\u00a0 local government chairman\u00a0 said Asolo and his group want to destabilise the party in Anambra state.<\/p>\n
“By their action, there is no gainsaying the fact that their sole aim is to destabilize the People\u2019s Democratic Party<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore we urge you members of the National Executive Committee of our party to disregard the purported suspension of the two high profile leaders of our great party,\u201d it stated.<\/p>\n
According to them, Asolo was suspended by the PDP ward leadership in Ward 13 Onitsha North Local Government Area of\u00a0 Anambra.<\/p>\n
They\u00a0 accused him of violation of the\u00a0 party constitution and anti-party activities.<\/p>\n
Recall\u00a0 that Asolo took over from Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu as acting Chairman\u00a0 on April 2 and\u00a0 suspended Chief Chris Uba, a member of PDP Board of Trustees and Chief Linus Ukachukwu, a chieftain of the party.<\/p>\n
