{"id":93706,"date":"2022-04-06T11:05:49","date_gmt":"2022-04-06T10:05:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=93706"},"modified":"2022-04-06T11:05:49","modified_gmt":"2022-04-06T10:05:49","slug":"kano-court-sentences-man-to-24-years-imprisonment-over-facebook-post","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/other-news\/kano-court-sentences-man-to-24-years-imprisonment-over-facebook-post\/","title":{"rendered":"Kano court sentences man to 24 years imprisonment over Facebook post"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">A Kano State High Court on Tuesday sentenced a Kano-born atheist, Mubarak Bala, to 24 years imprisonment for blasphemy.<\/p>\n<p>The convict, whose age and address were not provided by the court, was earlier arraigned on an 18-count charge bordering on blasphemy, incitement, contempt of religion and breach of public peace.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The convict had pleaded guilty to the charges.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nDelivering judgment, Justice Farouk Lawan, sentenced the convict to 24 years imprisonment.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The judge also ordered that the sentence term would commence from the day that the convict was arrested.<\/p>\n<p>He also ordered that the sentences for all the 18 charges for which Bala was convicted should run concurrently.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nEarlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Muhammad Sani, told the court that the convict had on April 28, 2020, made a blasphemous post on his Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>Sanusi said the post was against Allah (SWA) and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and had caused a major outrage in the city of Kano, where the convict hails from.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nAccording to the prosecutor, the offence contravened the provision of Sections 114 and 210 of the Penal Code.<\/p>\n<p>The Defence Counsel, Mr James Ibor, pleaded for leniency on behalf of his client, who concurred and promised not to repeat the blasphemous comments.<\/p>\n<div class=\"yj6qo\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"adL\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Kano State High Court on Tuesday sentenced a Kano-born atheist, Mubarak Bala, to 24 years imprisonment for blasphemy.
