{"id":93708,"date":"2022-04-06T11:32:36","date_gmt":"2022-04-06T10:32:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=93708"},"modified":"2022-04-06T11:32:36","modified_gmt":"2022-04-06T10:32:36","slug":"man-gets-life-in-prison-for-raping-robbing-student-at-unilag","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/man-gets-life-in-prison-for-raping-robbing-student-at-unilag\/","title":{"rendered":"Man gets life in prison for raping, robbing student at UNILAG"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">An Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on Tuesday sentenced a man, Collins Okechukwu, to life imprisonment for raping and robbing a 25-year-old student (name withheld) at the University of Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>Delivering judgement, Justice Abiola Soladoye, who described Okechukwu as a \u201cpathological liar,\u201d held that prosecution proved the charges of rape and robbery against Okechukwu beyond reasonable doubt.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nThe judge sentenced Okechukwu to life imprisonment for rape, and 21 years\u2019 imprisonment for robbery.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The judge, however, ordered that the two sentences should run concurrently.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nShe said, \u201cThe testimony of the defendant portrayed him as a pathological liar in the sense that he claimed that University of Lagos Guest House was fully booked and the survivor was sex starved, which made them have sex on bare floor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is unbelievable and watery.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\u201cThe defendant lured the survivor into the Admin Block, brought out a pistol, raped her and robbed her of her valuables thereafter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe claim of the defendant to have met the survivor at the guest house and she agreed to have sex with him was consistently laced with irregularities and found unreliable.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\u201cThe defendant is found guilty as charged, of the two offences, and thereby sentenced to life imprisonment in respect to rape and 21 years\u2019 jail term for robbery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sentences shall run concurrently.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\u201cHe should have his name entered in the Sex Offenders Register of the Lagos State Government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sholadoye also cautioned female students in tertiary institutions against giving out their telephone numbers to strangers.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n\u201cWhat manner of a woman is the victim herself?
