{"id":94260,"date":"2022-04-24T02:54:20","date_gmt":"2022-04-24T01:54:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=94260"},"modified":"2022-04-24T02:54:20","modified_gmt":"2022-04-24T01:54:20","slug":"over-100-people-killed-in-explosion-at-illegal-oil-refinery-in-imo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/over-100-people-killed-in-explosion-at-illegal-oil-refinery-in-imo\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 100 people killed in explosion at illegal oil refinery in Imo"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m48043\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Over 100 youths have reportedly lost their lives in an illegal crude oil refining site at Abaezi forest, in Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal  \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nReports indicate\u00a0 that about 150 others suffered grave injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Confirming the unfortunate incident, the State Commissioner for Petroleum Resources, Goodluck Opiah, who represented Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State during his visit to the scene, said so many youths lost their lives due to the dire incident.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The commissioner said that the illegal refiner, Okenze Onyewoke, has been declared wanted by the government of Imo State.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cAt the moment, I can\u2019t really confirm the number of the deceased because many family members have removed the corpses of so many others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cApart from this calamity, the act has destroyed the acqatic life of the community. Our people before now are predorminantly farmers and fishermen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook around, you\u2019ll find smokes coming from this illegal act. If this is not enough for any person to stop, I think the community is heading for what I can\u2019t describe.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n\u201cMost of the people who are engaging in this act are from Rivers, Bayelsa and other neigbouring States and it is sabotage for our people to allow this illegal act to continue.<\/p>\n<p>An eye witnesso, Mr Eze Ikedi told our correspondent that the incident occurred around 11 pm last night.<\/p>\n<p>According to him: \u201cThe fire was even entering the bush.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe saw the people that were inside, no one was seen coming out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople were also scared going close the place but later when people got there, they found out it was over hundred persons that were burnt and one hundred and fifty others who sustained serious burns were rushed into the villages for treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said that many of the victims were rejected at the village health centre.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over 100 youths have reportedly lost their lives in an illegal crude oil refining site at Abaezi forest, in Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.
