{"id":94279,"date":"2022-04-24T21:11:05","date_gmt":"2022-04-24T20:11:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=94279"},"modified":"2022-04-24T21:11:05","modified_gmt":"2022-04-24T20:11:05","slug":"nef-clears-air-on-northern-consensus-says-aspirants-requested-ibbs-intervention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/nef-clears-air-on-northern-consensus-says-aspirants-requested-ibbs-intervention\/","title":{"rendered":"NEF clears air on Northern consensus, says aspirants requested IBB&#8217;s intervention"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1731020873181224695\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">While the dust raised by the selection of Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed and former Senate President Bukola Saraki as northern consensus candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is yet to settle, the\u00a0Northern Elders Forum has explained that the idea behind the consensus arrangement was engineered by\u00a0the aspirants themselves.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Northern Elders Forum also said the aspirants including Governors\u00a0Aminu Tambuwal and Bala Mohammed, former Senate President, Saraki and Malam Mohammed Hayatudeen had informed President Badamasi Babangida of their intention, and requested elderly intervention and advise in the event that their efforts failed to produce consensus.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a statement, NEF&#8217;s\u00a0Director, Publicity and Advocacy,\u00a0Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed said, &#8220;It has become necessary to address the impression created in part by mischief, and in part by genuine confusion over the role of the Convener of Northern Elders Forum, in the efforts to create consensus among four aspirants for the Presidential ticket of the PDP.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;The idea to attempt to engineer a consensus among the aspirants was that of the aspirants themselves. Governors Aminu W Tambuwal and Bala Mohammed, former Senate President A.B.Saraki and Malam Mohammed Hayatudeen had informed President Badamasi Babangida of their intention, and requested elderly intervention and advise in the event that their efforts failed to produce consensus.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;President Babangida in turn requested Professor Ango Abdullahi in his individual capacity to design and manage a process that could improve a consensus agreement among the four aspirants. Professor Ango Abdullahi concluded that assignment and released a detailed report and recommendation, signing it in his individual capacity.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;It is important to make clear that the entire process did not involve the Northern Elders Forum as a group, and is not a product of the group.
