{"id":94474,"date":"2022-05-01T10:59:19","date_gmt":"2022-05-01T09:59:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=94474"},"modified":"2022-05-01T10:59:19","modified_gmt":"2022-05-01T09:59:19","slug":"land-dispute-ikpeazu-brokers-peace-between-presbyterian-church-okagwe-community-over-siting-of-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/land-dispute-ikpeazu-brokers-peace-between-presbyterian-church-okagwe-community-over-siting-of-university\/","title":{"rendered":"Land Dispute: Ikpeazu brokers peace between Presbyterian Church, Okagwe community over siting of University"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1731606516083375319\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has brokered peace between the Presbyterian Church and Okagwe community in Ohafia council area of the state, over the siting of the proposed Hope Waddel University in the Community.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe community has been\u00a0 locked in a battle with the Church over the siting of the University, owned by the Church, in the community.<\/p>\n<p>This crisis has stalled the development of the University for about 15\u00a0 years.<\/p>\n<p>To resolve the crisis, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu had convened an initial meeting between the authorities of the church led by the Prelate and Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, His Eminence, Nzie Nsi Eke and the representatives of the Okagwe Community led by their paramount Chief, Ezeogo Achi Uka Okoji.<\/p>\n<p>After hearing from both sides,the Governor made some undertakings including building a new secondary school in the area and assisting in the burial of one of the community&#8217;s sons, to assuage the pains of the Community and ensure peace reigns.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Onyebuchi Ememanka, said the issue has been officially resolved as both parties have agreed to work together.<\/p>\n<p>He said; &#8220;Yesterday,the Governor again presided over the final settlement of the dispute and signing of the peace agreement between the parties which has now put to an end, the long drawn crisis that had stalled the development of the University which the Governor described as the biggest catalyst of development for the Community and for the benefit of our state.The Governor&#8217;s intervention is deliberate because he understands what the University would mean to the Community in the nearest future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ikpeazu charged the parties to work harmoniously and shun any action that will cause breach of the agreement.<\/p>\n<p>He also tasked the church to see the Community as key stakeholders in the project having donated over 100 hectares of their ancestral land to the church\u00a0 for the University.<\/p>\n<p>He also told the Community to see the church as their partners who have brought positive development that will change the face of the community.<\/p>\n<p>When the Community Leaders raised the issue of a lingering court case over the land, the Governor undertook to speak to the parties in court and\u00a0 further pledged to ask the State Attorney General to request the Court to allow him arbitrate in the matter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has brokered peace between the Presbyterian Church and Okagwe community in Ohafia council area of the state, over the siting of the proposed Hope&hellip;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":78435,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-94474","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
