{"id":94844,"date":"2022-05-13T04:17:46","date_gmt":"2022-05-13T03:17:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=94844"},"modified":"2022-05-13T04:17:46","modified_gmt":"2022-05-13T03:17:46","slug":"buhari-signs-3-anti-money-laundering-bills-into-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/buhari-signs-3-anti-money-laundering-bills-into-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Buhari signs 3 anti-money laundering bills into law"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1732660004001061616\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">President Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law, three bills aimed at improving the anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing\/proliferation financing framework in Nigeria.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe bills are the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Bill, 2022, the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Bill, 2022, and the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) Bill, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Buhari said while signing the laws at the Council Chamber, State House, Abuja, on Thursday, that the bills were in tandem with this administration\u2019s commitment to fight corruption and illicit financing activities, as well as critical to the governance agenda and the development of Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe new laws have provided enough punitive measures and containment strategies against abuses and compromises,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nHe noted that the inadequacy of all the repealed Acts had impacted legal actions against offender.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will not rest until we rid the nation of the menace of money laundering, terrorism, and other financial crimes,\u201d he added.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nBuhari commended the National Assembly for the tenacity, courage and commitment in ensuring that Nigeria put in place effective measures to address the menace of money laundering, terrorism, and its financing.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the 9th National Assembly has proven to be patriotic, responsive, resourceful and industrious in its legislative assignments, recalling that on 14th January, 2022, he had sought expeditious passage of the bills.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nHe lauded the Assembly under Senate President Ahmed Lawan and the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila and their colleagues for responding to his request, saying they \u201chave certainly carved out a worthy legacy for themselves\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>On the importance of the legislations, the President said:<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n\u201cThe signing of these Bills into law today strengthens the Anti-Money Laundering\/Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML\/CFT) framework in the Country.<\/p>\n<p>It also addresses the deficiencies identified in Nigeria\u2019s 2nd round of Mutual Evaluation as assessed by Inter-Governmental Action Group Against Money Laundering in West Africa on compliance with the Financial Action Task Force global standards.&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law, three bills aimed at improving the anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing\/proliferation financing framework in Nigeria.
