{"id":94864,"date":"2022-05-13T08:49:16","date_gmt":"2022-05-13T07:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=94864"},"modified":"2022-05-13T08:49:16","modified_gmt":"2022-05-13T07:49:16","slug":"asuu-strike-continues-as-aso-rock-meeting-ends-in-deadlock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/asuu-strike-continues-as-aso-rock-meeting-ends-in-deadlock\/","title":{"rendered":"ASUU Strike Continues As Aso Rock Meeting Ends In Deadlock"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has rejected the plea to back down from its ongoing strike.<\/p>\n<p>The union, which met with Federal Government officials at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, on Thursday night, maintained its stance on the industrial action.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, had invited the union to a meeting at Aso Rock.Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour attended the meeting which ended without a truce.<\/p>\n<p>Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, Chairman of the Union, accused the Federal Government of withholding the salaries of lecturers so as to force them to return to classrooms.<\/p>\n<p>He stated the resolve of the union to carry on with the strike until their demands were met.<\/p>\n<p>ASUU had, on Monday, extended its roll-over strike which started on February 14 by another 12 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Its demands include the funding of the revitalisation of public universities, the Earned Academic Allowances, the University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) and promotion arrears.<\/p>\n<p>Others are the renegotiation of 2009 ASUU-FG Agreement and the inconsistency in Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">President Muhammadu Buhari had appealed to the union to end the strike in the interest of the students and the nation.<\/p>\n<div class=\"yj6qo\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"adL\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has rejected the plea to back down from its ongoing strike.
