{"id":95124,"date":"2022-05-20T13:27:50","date_gmt":"2022-05-20T12:27:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=95124"},"modified":"2022-05-20T13:27:50","modified_gmt":"2022-05-20T12:27:50","slug":"fg-moves-to-end-asuu-poly-lecturers-strikes-begins-arrears-payment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/fg-moves-to-end-asuu-poly-lecturers-strikes-begins-arrears-payment\/","title":{"rendered":"FG moves to end ASUU, poly lecturers strikes, begins arrears payment"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>The Federal Government has commenced the payment of minimum wage arrears, which it owed lecturers under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics and Academic Staff Union of Universities as part of efforts to end ongoing strikes by the unions, The PUNCH has learnt.<\/p>\n<p>The National President of ASUP, Dr. Anderson Ezeibe, and the Chairman, ASUU FUTMinna, Dr. Gbolahan Bolarin, confirmed this in separate interviews with our correspondent in Abuja on Thursday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>Pointblanknews.com reported that the two unions are currently on strike following the inability of the government to meet their demands including the payment of minimum wage arrears and release of revitalisation funds, among others.<\/p>\n<p>While ASUU commenced its strike on February 14, 2022, ASUP is currently on an initial two-week warning strike.<\/p>\n<p>Confirming the payment on Thursday, Ezeibe, however, said that was just the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cThe government has started responding. They just started paying the salary\/minimum wage arrears, the one they have refused to pay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, that is just one of the demands, so we have not reached anywhere.
