{"id":95483,"date":"2022-05-30T01:44:23","date_gmt":"2022-05-30T00:44:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=95483"},"modified":"2022-05-30T01:44:23","modified_gmt":"2022-05-30T00:44:23","slug":"gunmen-kidnap-methodist-prelate-in-abia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/gunmen-kidnap-methodist-prelate-in-abia\/","title":{"rendered":"Gunmen kidnap Methodist prelate in Abia"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1734200153568151950\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">Samuel Kanu, prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria (MCN), has been abducted by gunmen.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nHe was said to have been kidnapped on Sunday along the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway in Umunneochi LGA of Abia state.<\/p>\n<p>Dennis Mark, the bishop of Owerri, as well as another cleric, were also said to have been abducted during the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Geoffrey Ogbonna, Abia police spokesperson, confirmed the incident to TheCable.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">According to him, efforts are ongoing to ensure the rescue of the clerics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have intensified effort mobilising all our tactical teams to ensure that the prelate and the other priests that are with him are rescued unhurt and for a possible arrest of the suspects,\u201d Ogbonna said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are calling on members of the public to help with credible information that will help us rescue the clerics.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe development is the latest in attacks on states in the south-east in recent months, leading to killings, abductions and destruction of properties \u2014 including government facilities such as police stations.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent attack which occurred in February, eight people were killed when gunmen invaded a cattle market in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Months before the attack on the cattle market, Godfrey Chimezie, a Catholic priest, was abducted by gunmen.<\/p>\n<p>The priest, however, regained his freedom after more than one week in captivity.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Samuel Kanu, prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria (MCN), has been abducted by gunmen.
