{"id":96160,"date":"2022-06-20T17:42:01","date_gmt":"2022-06-20T16:42:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=96160"},"modified":"2022-06-20T17:42:01","modified_gmt":"2022-06-20T16:42:01","slug":"ex-minister-of-niger-delta-affairs-godsday-orubebe-dumps-pdp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/ex-minister-of-niger-delta-affairs-godsday-orubebe-dumps-pdp\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe dumps PDP"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">Former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe, has resigned his membership of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stating that the party is not ready to take back power from the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Orubebe who was minister under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, disclosed this in a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, dated Monday, June 20, stressing that his resignation was with immediate effect and that he had notified his ward chairman in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Orubebe who became famous after he attempted to disrupt\u00a0 the collation of results of the 2015 presidential election at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, expressed displeasure over the party&#8217;s refusal to zone its presidential ticket.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cConsequently, I am by this letter intimating you of my total withdrawal from all activities at the Ward, Local, State and National levels of the People\u2019s Democratic Party, (PDP).<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cI am highly honoured and privileged to have been part of a political party that successfully transformed a pariah nation to one that commanded respect in the comity of nations.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cWhen we lost the Presidential election in 2015 in bewildering circumstances, to say the least, it was my belief that the party would use the opposition period to re-strategise to take back power at the earliest opportunity,&#8221; the letter read in part.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;However, the present situation in the party does not inspire confidence that the party is ready to regain power in 2023.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;Against the mood of the nation and in complete disregard for the provisions of the party\u2019s constitution, the party, threw the zoning of the Presidency open, which created a situation that led to the emergence of a Northerner as the party\u2019s Presidential flagbearer, thus making the two topmost positions in the party, after your emergence as the National Chairman, to be occupied by Northerners, contrary to section 7.3(0) of the party\u2019s constitution.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cI salute and commend the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Nyesom Wike for his efforts and gallantry at the primaries. Posterity will be kind to him when the history of the party is written.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cThere are lots to be said, but out of respect for the party, I leave some stories untold at this time.
