{"id":96751,"date":"2022-07-07T22:52:27","date_gmt":"2022-07-07T21:52:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=96751"},"modified":"2022-07-07T22:52:27","modified_gmt":"2022-07-07T21:52:27","slug":"court-disqualifies-delta-pdp-govship-candidate-oborevwori","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/court-disqualifies-delta-pdp-govship-candidate-oborevwori\/","title":{"rendered":"Court disqualifies Delta PDP Gov&#8217;ship candidate, Oborevwori"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1737726297492592942\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, has disqualified Delta state candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 governorship elections, Sherrif Oborevwori.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe court, in a judgement that was delivered by Justice Taiwo Taiwo, held that Oborevwori, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, was not qualified to participate in the election.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe verdict followed a suit that was brought before the court by an aggrieved member of the party, Olorogun David Edevbie.<\/p>\n<p>The Plaintiff had among other things, contended that the Defendant was not validly nominated by his party.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He told the court that PDP violated both its constitution and the Electoral Guidelines, during its state congress that produced Oborevwori as its flagbearer for the forthcoming gubernatorial election.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, the Plaintiff, prayed the court to restrain the party from forwarding Oborevwori\u2019s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and to also restrain the electoral body from receiving or recognising him as the duly nominated candidate of s the party for the election.<\/p>\n<p>More so, the Plaintiff, sought an order to restrain Oborevwori from parading or carrying himself as the governorship candidate of the PDP in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Also cited as Defendants in the matter were the PDP and INEC.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in his judgement on Thursday, Justice Taiwo held that the suit was meritorious. He accordingly granted the reliefs against Oborevwori.<\/p>\n<p>Oborevwori, who enjoys the support of the governor and vice presidential candidate of the party, Ifeanyi Okowa, was on May 25, declared winner of PDP Delta state guber ticket with 597 votes, beating 13 other aspirants.
