National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Adamu, on Tuesday, advanced reasons for the defeat of the party\u2019s candidate in last Saturday\u2019s Osun State governorship election, Adegboyega Oyetola, who is also the incumbent.<\/p>\n
Adamu said contrary to claims by the opposition, the crisis within the APC resulted in the loss, and not it\u2019s inability to win.<\/p>\n
The APC national Chairman stated this while speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa Service.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, the Independent Electoral Commission declared candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the winner of won the governorship election after he polled a total of 403,371 votes to beat incumbent Governor Oyetola of the APC who got 375,027 votes in a keenly contested race.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the APC\u2019s loss of the Osun election, Adamu said, \u201cWe lost the race not because we are incapable but because of the crisis within. We had a massive gathering of supporters a few days before the election in Osogbo. No one could ever anticipate that we would lose the election.\u201d<\/p>\n
He noted that it was normal in life to lose something that was really needed by someone, stating that the APC accepted the defeat in good faith and had learnt from it.<\/p>\n
The APC national Chairman, however, expressed hope that the party will win in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.<\/p>\n
Adamu further said, \u201cOsun defeat doesn\u2019t in any way mean that we will lose at the general election. We only lost one state out of the 22 we have; you see, we are still strong.<\/p>\n
