{"id":97346,"date":"2022-07-26T13:52:44","date_gmt":"2022-07-26T12:52:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=97346"},"modified":"2022-07-26T13:52:44","modified_gmt":"2022-07-26T12:52:44","slug":"organ-harvesting-court-grants-ekweremadus-wife-bail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/organ-harvesting-court-grants-ekweremadus-wife-bail\/","title":{"rendered":"Organ harvesting: Court grants Ekweremadu\u2019s wife bail"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>A London court has granted Beatrice, wife of a former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, bail.<\/p>\n<p>While she was granted bail, her husband, who is the lawmaker representing Enugu West Senatorial district, was denied bail.<\/p>\n<p>Ike, a barrister and former deputy president of the Nigerian Senate and Beatrice, an accountant, appeared at the Old Bailey on Friday for a bail hearing.<\/p><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Pointblanknews.com had reported that Ekweremadu was charged by the UK Metropolitan Police with conspiracy to facilitate the travel of another person for organ harvesting.<\/div>\n<div>\nIt is alleged Ike Ekweremadu, 60, and his wife, Beatrice Ekweremadu, 55, brought the 21-year-old man from Nigeria to the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors claim they planned to have his kidney removed so it could be given to their daughter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe position is that I have granted bail to Beatrice subject to some fairly stringent conditions but I have refused bail to Ike,\u201d Daily Mail quoted the Common Serjeant of London, judge Richard Marks, to have ruled.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors are not appealing the decision, the court heard.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Tim Probert-Wood said previously that the case involved \u2018exploitation and the harvesting of an organ.\u2019<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n\u201cThe case began on 5 May 2022 when the complainant presented himself at Staines Police Station and claimed he had been transported to this country for the purpose of his kidney being removed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe arrived on 20th February 2022 and was taken to Royal Free Hospital where tests were conducted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the purpose he was there he did not consent to the taking of his kidney.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe returned to the house he was staying and his treatment changed dramatically.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe described being treated effectively as a slave.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A London court has granted Beatrice, wife of a former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, bail.
