In renewed attacks, terrorists have abducted 66 people in Kaduna and Zamfara states. While 36 residents of Keke B area of New Millennium City, in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State were kidnapped on Monday night by bandits who invaded the community, four people were killed and 30 others abducted yesterday morning in Morai community of Talata Mafara local government area in Zamfara State.<\/p>\n
The Kaduna attack it was gathered occurred around 9:00pm on Monday when many residents were yet to return from work. Though men of the Millennium City Police Division were still in the area to ascertain the number of people kidnapped, a resident told our correspondent that about 36 people were kidnapped.<\/p>\n
A resident who confirmed the attack said that, \u201cThe kidnappers came around 9:00pm when it was raining. So, people were not alerted early enough, because the rain was heavy. They kidnapped about 36 people. Most of the people kidnapped were just returning home and ran into the bandits during the attack.\u201d<\/p>\n
An eyewitness said that the bandits operated from house to house unchallenged.<\/p>\n
According to Muhammad Salihu, a resident, \u201cMany of us were still outside when the bandits attacked because it was quite early, around 9pm. They came in a large number, shooting sporadically and brandishing dangerous weapons.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey broke into people\u2019s houses one after the other and kidnapped the occupants. One person, a motorcycle mechanic, was able to escape from the kidnappers, but they went away with 36 residents,\u201d he reiterated.<\/p>\n
The state police command spokesperson DSP Mohammed Jalige could not be reached as his lines were not connected and no official statement from the government as at the time of filing this report.<\/p>\n
In the Zamfara incident, online newspaper, Premium Times reported that four people were killed while over 30 others were kidnapped. It said residents explained that the bandits attacked the community around 02:30 am and operated till 06:15 am.<\/p>\n
A resident, Mansur Zainu, said it was the first time gunmen will attack the town, the second largest in the local government area.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have attacked villages around us but they came yesterday for the first time and it was terrible. Our vigilante members tried to repel them but you know they have more sophisticated weapons than our people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to Mr Zainu, the gunmen killed three men and a boy including the Sarkin Fawa (the chief butcher) of the town, Sani Na\u2019Ayi and Yahaya Mohammed, a businessman.<\/p>\n
We don\u2019t know how they were killed because it was only after the attack that we found their bodies when we returned but it\u2019s possible that they were shot while trying to flee like other people,\u201d Mr Zainu said.<\/p>\n
A younger brother to the slain Yahaya Mohammed, who asked not to be named, said the deceased\u2019s wife, uncle and sister-in-law were abducted.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen the bandits entered our area, Yahaya was the first to run but he, unfortunately, felt he couldn\u2019t run much so he decided to hide behind a food silo but it was unfortunate that one of the bandits had seen him, he followed and shot him twice on the head,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Another resident, Lawal Suyidi, said most of those abducted were women. \u201cIn our house alone, four women and two of my younger brothers were taken. My elder sister was also abducted but when she got tired, they (bandits) left her behind. It was some vigilante members that saw her and brought her back,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said three of her sons were, nonetheless, taken. Mr Suyudi said they stopped counting the number of missing residents because some returned on Monday evening. \u201cBut we\u2019ve over 30 residents yet to be accounted for,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
