{"id":97652,"date":"2022-08-03T18:51:03","date_gmt":"2022-08-03T17:51:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=97652"},"modified":"2022-08-03T18:51:03","modified_gmt":"2022-08-03T17:51:03","slug":"court-orders-arrest-of-wema-bank-md-over-alleged-forgery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/court-orders-arrest-of-wema-bank-md-over-alleged-forgery\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Orders Arrest Of Wema Bank MD Over Alleged Forgery"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">A warrant of arrest has been issued against Mr Ademola Adebisi, Managing Director of Wema Bank Plc, for alleged forgery.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Magistrate Elizabeth Jones of the Chief Magistrates\u2019 Court in Wuse, Abuja, issued the warrant following Mr Adebisi\u2019s failure to appear before the court on five adjournments.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Bank chief was invited to appear before the court to respond to an ongoing forgery case brought against the bank by one Mr George Halliday.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The complainant had accused the bank of failing to honour a garnishee order absolute issued by the High Court of the FCT directing them to pay him the sum of N50 million.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Mr Halliday said that Wema Bank followed the high court\u2019s instructions by issuing five bank drafts for N10 million each, totaling the judgment debt amount, which is supposed to be payable by the Bayelsa State Government, the judgment debtor.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The complaint however said that First Bank dishonoured the draft issued by Wema Bank stating that the drafts had been twice presented for clearing and twice rejected.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nMr Halliday further accused the bank of falsifying the Bayelsa State Government\u2019s Internally Generated Revenue Statement of Account claiming that there were no funds in the state\u2019s treasury.<\/p>\n<p>He alleged that the bank falsified the statement of account to justify the failed draft.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cThat they further forged an affidavit which filing fees were paid in 2017 but commissioned in 2007.
