Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice M.A Lawal has said that nothing will stop Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje not to fulfill his promise of signing the death warrant on Abdulmalik Tanko, the killer of Hanifa.<\/p>\n
According to the Commissioner, as soon as legal proceedings on his conviction are completed, Ganduje will sign the death warrant.<\/p>\n
The Attorney General who spoke in Kano over the government\u2019s next line of action on the legal position taken by trial judge, Justice Usman Na\u2019aba, explained that the two convicts have rights of appeal against the lower Court judgement.<\/p>\n
The Attorney General said: \u201cThe court had sentenced two of the accused to death by hanging and the Governor has promised to sign the death warrant, so we are waiting for the 90 days period for appeal before he does the needful.<\/p>\n
He said the Constitution has allowed the convict rights of appeal for about a three months window period. Remember when this trial started, we promised Nigeria the commitment to prosecute the case to its logical conclusion and we\u2019ve delivered on that\u201d.<\/p>\n
It could be recalled that Justice Na\u2019abba of Kano state High Court had last week convicted Tanko Abdulmalik, the prime suspect in Hanifa\u2019s death and his accomplice guilty of Kidnapping the five years old pupil to death by hanging.<\/p>\n
Similarly, the court further convicted Abddulmalik and Hashimu to five years jail term for guilty of other three charges in the counts.<\/p>\n
However, the third defendant, Fatima Musa was sentenced to two years imprisonment for criminal conspiracy and attempted kidnapping.<\/p>\n
The Attorney General said: \u201cIn six months, the trial judge concluded the case within six months. This is commendable. So, if there is appeal, we would remind the public that the government is ready for the appeal at any given time.<\/p>\n
Lawan stated that, \u201cFor people raising questions on whether the Judgement would be executed or not, all I can say is the law is the law. We would wait for the 90 days grace of appeal. If they appeal fine, we would equally swing to action if they did not, as soon as the waiting period expired the governor will do the needful<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
