{"id":97997,"date":"2022-08-12T10:28:28","date_gmt":"2022-08-12T09:28:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=97997"},"modified":"2022-08-12T10:28:28","modified_gmt":"2022-08-12T09:28:28","slug":"publish-covid-19-reports-fg-charged","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/publish-covid-19-reports-fg-charged\/","title":{"rendered":"Publish COVID-19 Reports, FG Charged"},"content":{"rendered":"<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Experts and other critical stakeholders including non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in the health sector, have called on the federal government through the Federal Ministry of Health and Federal Ministry of Finance to publish the 2020, 2021 and 2022 COVID-19 and Health Security expenditure report.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">They made the call at the end of a two\u2013day retreat to review draft national and states scorecards on Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent and Elderly Health Plus Nutrition (RMNCAEH+N) and COVID-19 and Health Security Accountability, championed by Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN), in Lagos.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nIn a statement issued by the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN), Dr. Aminu Magashi, the stakeholders recommended that in line with \u2018One Health Strategy\u2019, the federal government should strengthen coordinated surveillance systems in the animal health and public health sectors for zoonotic diseases\/pathogens identified as joint priorities.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">They recommended that the federal government should support states in strengthening state crisis communication team and community involvement for factual public information on COVID-19 that will increase uptake of vaccine;\u00a0 federal government to ensure adequate COVID-19 vaccines made available to all the 36 states including the Federal capital territory (FCT) and support poor performing states to increase vaccine uptake and reduce hesitancy and support relevant government agencies for development of innovative ways to monitor\/track allocation, donors support, loans and government releases for health security and COVID-19.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cIt is worrisome that 60 percent of infectious diseases come from zoonotic sources. It is also the source of three out of every four new or emerging infectious diseases in humans.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n&#8220;This calls for urgent attention by the federal government to ensure the availability of coordinated surveillance systems in the animal and public health sectors for zoonotic diseases\/ pathogens,\u201d says Dr. Mohammed Abbas, Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, Bayero University, Kano.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The COVID-19 and health security accountability scorecard was developed through adaptation of selected indicators from the World Health Organisation\u2019s (WHO) Joint External Evaluation (JEE) tool for evaluation of International Health Regulation (IHR) 2nd edition, review and validation of government documents including approved budget and presentations, review of COVID-19 related government online dashboards, advocacy\/retreat meetings with agencies, CSOs, media and young people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The scorecard was developed to report civil society organisations (CSOs) review on Nigeria`s capacity on preparedness and response to health security and COVID-19.
