The\u00a0 Labour Party (LP), on Saturday,\u00a0 said it had not\u00a0 appointed\u00a0 Mr Charles\u00a0 Okadigbo\u00a0\u00a0 as its spokesperson as announced by Prof. Pat Utomi.<\/div>\n

\nA statement signed by\u00a0 Mr Arabambi\u00a0 Abayomi, National Publicity Secretary on Saturday in Abuja,\u00a0 said that the\u00a0 National Consultative Front (NCF) had no constitutional power to make appointments for the party .<\/p>\n

Abayomi\u00a0 said\u00a0 that only the National Chairman, Julius Abure, could do that.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n\u201cOur attention has been drawn to the news intercepted through multiple news medium\u00a0 that one Mr Charles Okadigbo has been appointed as the\u00a0 Spokesman of Labour Party\u00a0\u00a0 by Prof.\u00a0 Pat Utomi.<\/p>\n

\u201d It is not undisputed that\u00a0 LP has not made such appointment since Utomi\u00a0 who is\u00a0 the leader of NCF cannot usurp the function of the National Chairman .<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the records, Utomi, who is the leader of the NCF, a strong affiliate of the LP , while in a zoom meeting introduced Charles Okadigbo as the Media Head of the \u201cBig Tent\u201d , an acronym for the NCF and\u00a0 No mention of LP was made on that platform.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll appointments by the LP are made through the office of the national chairman and announcement made by\u00a0 the National Publicity Secretary under the directive of the national chairman ,\u201d he said<\/p>\n

According to Abayomi, for emphasis and clarity : Article 14 sub section 1(a) of the Labour Party constitution states as follows;<\/p>\n

\u201d The national chairman shall give leadership to the party and shall preside over all meetings of the National Executive Council and the National Working Committee of the party.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the constitutional provision quoted above,\u00a0 vested the power\u00a0 of all appointments and leadership only\u00a0 to the person and the office of the national chairman.<\/p>\n

\u201cLP now uses this opportunity to say\u00a0 the LP is guided by the constitution in all its activities.<\/p>\n

\u201d As\u00a0 such,\u00a0 all members of the party as well as interested members of the public presently in LP should from here on, take serious caution that the function of the national\u00a0 chairman as head of LP is not in question.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abayomi, therefore,\u00a0 urged\u00a0 that everyone should\u00a0 obey the constitution of the Labour Party and be guided by the party\u2019s directives.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
