{"id":98202,"date":"2022-08-16T12:05:13","date_gmt":"2022-08-16T11:05:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=98202"},"modified":"2022-08-16T12:05:13","modified_gmt":"2022-08-16T11:05:13","slug":"unpaid-salary-3-medical-doctors-leave-abia-monthly-nma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/unpaid-salary-3-medical-doctors-leave-abia-monthly-nma\/","title":{"rendered":"Unpaid salary: 3 medical doctors leave Abia monthly &#8211; NMA"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Abia State chapter has said that at least 3 medical doctors leave the state for better opportunities abroad monthly.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Chairman of NMA, Abia State chapter, Dr Chimezie Okwuonu, who disclosed this at the celebration of his 6 years of stewardship, lamented that the situation was impacting negatively on the health care system in the state.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He urged the state government to address the issues of the welfare of doctors at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), Aba; and the Health Management Board,(HMB) who are on strike over unpaid arrears of salaries<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Okwuonu linked the exodus of medical doctors from the state to the problem of unpaid salaries and work environment which the NMA has complained about.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He urged the state government to pay more attention to health care delivery system in the state to check the increasing exodus of medical personnel.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;Two to three doctors leave Abia every month for Saudi Arabia where they are paid about six times their salary per month.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;Regular payment of salaries will help reduce brain drain among doctors.
