The crisis facing the National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu must be seen in the context of an evolution of democracy rather than the machinations of any individual, least of all Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State who literarily pulled down every obstacle to ensure his emergence, says Mr Nathaniel Ikyur, the Chief Press Secretary to Gov Ortom.<\/p>\n

“It is an open secret that Gov Ortom\u00a0 worked tirelessly, alongside other prominent Benue citizens to ensure that Dr. Ayu gets elected as the National Chairman of our great party even against all odds. He cannot therefore turn around\u00a0 to work against him to be removed from office” Ikyur stated in a Press Statement made available to newsmen on Monday described as mischievous,\u00a0 allegations by an amorphous, little known group parading itself as\u00a0 Jemgbagh Development Association, Abuja chapter to suggest that\u00a0the Benue governor has a hand in Ayu’s current travails.<\/p>\n

The CPS maintained that Gov Ortom with the backing of many leaders of the PDP who believed his sense of judgment worked relentlessly in the run up to the Party’s National Convention to market Dr Ayu as having the requisite capacity to lead the PDP especially in the 2023 General Elections<\/p>\n

“Gov Ortom vouched for the integrity and capacity of Dr Iyorchia Ayu to lead and rebuild the PDP to victory and rescue Nigeria from the misrule of the APC maladministration. That is why Ayu was returned unopposed by the Northern Caucus of the party and got elected as the national chairman of the PDP at the party’s convention.<\/p>\n

“Where was Jemgbagh Development Association when Gov Ortom galvanised support from across the leaders of the party to make Dr. Ayu PDP’s National Chairman? What was their contribution into that project that they now want to use\u00a0 clannish stance to blackmail the Governor?”, he queried.<\/p><\/div>\n

\nHe further described as\u00a0 laughable how “this amorphous and emergency Jemgbagh Development Association, Abuja who have never been heard of before, is now masquerading as the voice of Jemgbagh to embark on campaign of calumny against Gov Ortom who has worked selflessly for the people of\u00a0 Benue State.<\/div>\n
\n“Gov Ortom is more Jemgbagh than most of the people claiming it now. This is fact because he has done more for Jemgbagh both in terms of appointments and projects executed as well as patronage in the area than even one of the Jemgbagh son who was Governor. Besides, Gov\u00a0 Ortom has consistently worked for the unity of Benue State and will never stand in the way of any of her citizens, either here in the state or in the diaspora.<\/p>\n

“For those who claim to be leaders of this Jemgbagh Development Association, Abuja, we\u00a0 urge them to be truly\u00a0 developmental in their drive to build cohesion among the people and attract\u00a0 real development to their area rather than engaging in mischief or blackmail”, the statement affirmed.<\/p>\n

Pointblanknews.com reports that the Jemgbagh Development Association, Abuja branch has over the weekend issued a communique narrowing the constitutional crisis brewing in the PDP to clannish petty politics of Benue State.<\/p>\n
