{"id":99746,"date":"2022-09-27T16:00:43","date_gmt":"2022-09-27T15:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=99746"},"modified":"2022-09-27T16:00:43","modified_gmt":"2022-09-27T15:00:43","slug":"court-strikes-out-suit-against-asuu-fg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/court-strikes-out-suit-against-asuu-fg\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Strikes Out Suit Against ASUU, FG"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The National Industrial Court, NIC, sitting in Abuja has struck out a suit filed by the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, to compel the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and the Federal Government to call off the ongoing strike action.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The presiding judge, Justice Polycarp Hamman closed further proceedings in the matter following the withdrawal of the suit by the factional President of NANS, Umar Faruk Lawal.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lawal had informed the court that he filed the suit marked NICN\/ABJ\/273\/2022 for himself and on behalf of NANS.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">When the matter came up on Tuesday, Lawal, notified the court that he had filed a motion for discontinuance.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The plaintiff said his decision to withdraw the suit was because of the challenge by NANS, which contested his standing and denied that he is the President of the student body, as he had deposed to.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Though the other two respondents were not represented, however, counsel to ASUU, Marshal Abubakar, informed the court that he was not opposed to Lawal\u2019s application to withdraw the suit.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Consequently, Justice Hamman struck out the matter.<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Industrial Court, NIC, sitting in Abuja has struck out a suit filed by the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, to compel the Academic Staff Union of Universities,&hellip;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":78631,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-99746","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
