Senate President drum up support for Uduaghan's Second Term

Senate President David Mark has joined those clamoring for Delta state Governor to run for a second term saying that Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has performed very well.

Senator Mark who was speaking at a grand reception organized for Dr. Uduaghan by the Itsekiri Nation in Warri called on Deltans to support the Governors bid for a second term because he not only transformed the state but guaranteed peace and security.

He described Delta State as a miniature Nigeria explaining that because of the strategic position of the state in the country, once there was peace in the state there will correspondingly be peace in the entire nation.

The Senate president who rated Dr. Uduaghan very high said since he was doing well in governance he should be given a second chance to enable him complete the good work he was doing.

Senator David Mark however enjoined the governor to work closely with senators representing his state in the senate even as he charged him to remember his mission and continue to provide enough dividends of democracy to Deltans.

He also requested him to keep harmonious relationship with his State legislature noting that when the legislature and the executive partner together in the task of governance, development will flourish in the state.

Emphasizing further, David Mark said ”Uduaghan is doing well and should be given a second chance. But I advise him to work closely with senators from his state and cooperate fully with his state legislature”.

In his speech, Delta State Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan expressed appreciation to Acting president Goodluck Jonathan for signing the Oil and Gas content bill but appealed to the federal government to establish the office for the programme in Delta State.

Dr. Uduaghan said the state was ready and has all the structures required for the establishment of sure an office.

He said the Bill was critical to the development of Niger Delta region and expressed the hope that the programme would solve most of the problems confronting the region.
His words “ The Oil and Gas content Bill is critical to the region. I appeal to the Federal Government to establish the headquarters of the body in Delta state because we have the facilities”.

Assuring Deltans that he has taken up the challenge for the development of the State, the Governor commended all ethnic groups in the state for sinking their differences.
Dr.  Uduaghan said that peace was central for the acceleration of development in the state and promised that the best was yet to come.

He said he was ready to carry the cross of development for the people and commended the Itsekiri nation for hosting him.

The Governor particularly expressed appreciation to the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse for all the support he has given to his administration.

While commending other royal fathers and ethnic groups in the state for their various roles in enthroning peace in the state, Dr. Uduaghan said “for now people can move to anywhere in the state without fear.  We are one and anybody can live anywhere. I thank you all”.

Speaking on behalf of Itsekiri people, Dr. Charles Ikomi said they were happy with the Governor because he has made them proud.

Dr. Ikomi who outlined the achievements of Dr. Uduaghan to include construction of good motorable roads, electricity projects, portable water schemes, airports, hospitals among others said the governor did not betray the confidence the Itsekiri nation placed on him.

He therefore called on Deltans to give the governor another chance so that he can continue to transform the state.
