Jonathan sworn in as President, may name Yayale as Vice

Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has been sworn as new President and Commander-in- Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, just few hours after the death of President Umaru Musa Yar‘Adua.

Jonathan has been Acting President since February and he is expected to appoint a deputy and serve out the rest of the current presidential term until elections due for next year.

The new president took the oath of office in front of government ministers and other officials at the presidential villa in Abuja almost 12 hours after Yar‘Adua died. The ceremony was performed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Alloysius Katsina-Alu.

Yar‘Adua died late on Wednesday in Abuja, after a long illness.

However, there are strong indication that Secretary of Government, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed may be named Vive-President.

Sources informed Pointblanknews.com that Yayale name is top amongst the list of potential Vice President being considered by President Jonathan.

The Bauchi born politician was one of the early break-aways of the late President Yar'Adua's cabal and have been an arch political rival of Governor Isa Yuguda, a son in-law to Yar'Adua and a leading figure of the cabal.

Yayale is considered as a very experienced civil servant and Politician. He was brought into lime light by former President Olusegun Obasanjo as Head of Service.

President Umaru Yar'Adua appointed him to the position of Defence Minister July 26, 2007. He had no military experience prior to the appointment. On September 8, 2008, President Umaru Yar'Adua appointed him as the Secretary to The Government of The Federation replacing Alhaji Babagana Kingibe
