Ekiti PDP warns AC against destruction of Judiciary
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has warned the
Action Congress (AC) and its sympathisers of the dare consequences of
their systematic destruction of the Judiciary, saying; “It should not
only be when the party or its candidates win cases at the tribunal
that they should hail the judiciary.”
Ekiti State PDP, in a statement issued by its chairman, Rot. Bola
Olu-Ojo said all lovers of democracy and rule of law should be worried
by the consistent humiliation of the judiciary by the AC whenever the
tribunal rules against its candidate, adding that; “the political
gangsters and hypocrites in the AC must not be allowed to throw our
revered judiciary into the mud.”
Olu-Ojo said; “We have watch with keen interest utterances of the AC
as a party and its sympathisers since the Justice Hamma Barka-led
tribunal delivered its judgment on the petition filed by the party’s
governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi against the
victory of Governor Segun Oni in the April 25, 2009 rerun governorship
election.
“To say the least, what we have heard and read in some newspapers as
comments from the AC, its candidate and sympathisers are debasing.
They speak volume on the configuration of the inner minds of the AC
people because it is only a party of gangsters and hypocrites that
will expect to win at all times.
“For the avoidance of doubt, it was the same judiciary that these
political marabouts in the AC are castigating that gave them the
Appeal Court red-biro inclined judgment on Ekiti State, the Edo State
Governorship, the Ekiti Central Senatorial Seat (even when the
beneficiary of that judgment cannot beat his chest and say that he won
the election), the retrial of Osun State governorship election
petition and nullification of Senator Iyiola Omisore's election, among
others.
“When all the above judgments were delivered, the AC hailed the
judiciary to the highest heavens. Then, we as a party did not raise
our voice against the judiciary. We simply accepted the judgments.“But now that men of the same judiciary gave judgment against the AC,
the double-faced self-appointed democrats in the party are calling for
the heads of the judges.
“Our question is; must the AC people have their ways always? Must we
continue to live in a world where the only process that is acceptable
is the one that is favourable to the AC? Must our national
institutions be pulled down because of the desperate ambition of a
group of people? Must men of conscience continue to keep silent when
our national institutions are being debased?
“Now they are maligning our judges, saying that they collected N3
billion bribe. Imagine them foolishly saying that N3 billion cash was
changed to dollars at Ogere toll gate? So Ekiti is a State of Ologbon
D’oriejamu Gongosu Edidare where someone can travel all the way from
Abuja to Ogere Toll Gate to change N3 billion cash to dollars? Is this
not incredible?
“Isn’t it is imperative that we also begin to ask the AC hawks why
they distributed a green and white coloured Ankara to their supporters
in anticipation of a 'favourable' judgment at the tribunal? Can they
tell the whole world why they lodged a popular Lagos based Fuji
musician in Sun View Hotel, Akure, waiting for the judgment? We need
to know the basis on which several cows were bought by Fayemi if not
because he had been told that the judgment would favour him.
“It is therefore our appeal to the AC people to desist from making
utterances capable of ridiculing our revered judiciary because that is
the only institution that remains the hope of the common man. It
should not only be when AC gets favourable judgment that the judiciary
should be hailed, and it should not also be when AC wins an election
that the election is free and fair.”
