British Broadcasting Corporation inaugurates Media Committee on HIV/AIDS in Ogun
British Broadcasting Corporation {BBC}, the World Service Trust has
inaugurated the Media Committee for Ogun State which overall goal is to
serve as a custodian of the Media activities towards enhancing the state
response to HIV/AIDS.
The inaugurated Media Practitioners include; Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji{Next
Newspapers}, Tunde Sodeke{Gateway Television}, Temitope Ugbechie{Gateway
Radio}, Timilehin Akinbode{Paramount F.M}, Afolabi Lawal{Nigeria
Television Authority}, Mojisola Solaja{Gateway Television} and Kehinde
Akinyemi{Daily Trust}
Members’ inauguration took place at Richton Hotel and Suites, Abeokuta
where objectives of the setting up of the media committee were read out to
them. The ceremony also witnessed lecture entitled ‘the ion Committee
situation report of HIV and AIDS in the state’ was delivered by
Director, State Action on Aids {SACA}, Ranti Oladeinde.
Similarly, other topics discussed at the ceremony which also served as
platform for Media Forum include Gender in HIV which was anchored by
Community Mobilization Officer, for State Action on Aids {SACA}, Mrs.
Grace Adeniji, while overview of Enhancing Nigeria’s Response {ENR} was
equally discussed.
The BBC World Service Trust representative, Nasir Nluazu-Isa while
inaugurating the committee, said they should select HIV priority issues to
ensure that an appropriate HIV campaign relevant to the state is
maintained
The committee should also plan media {radio and television} deployment for
special events and seasons, on a thematic basis and also audience
interactive for. He added that effectively design news feed for the HIV
news coverage by newspapers in the state.
According to him, ‘In this area, synergy will be encouraged between
Civil Society Organization’s and newspaper columnists for full
exploration of the state-relevant HIV issues under columns. Regular
meetings with the media committee members in all the states will help
track the progress of writing.
He stated further that British Broadcasting Corporation {BBC} World
Service Trust will use this medium to give regular updates about HIV news
and the campaign of the trust, ‘West Service Trust can use this platform
to raise awareness among politicians that independent media coverage is
beneficial to them’
