Abia State House of Assembly impeach Deputy Governor, Chris Akomas
The Abia state House of Assembly formally impeached the deputy governor, Chris
Akomas on Monday. However Mr. Akomas had on Saturday announced that he had
formally resigned his position with effect from Friday 30 July.
The 24 member house however reconvened Monday from their vacation and considered
the report of the seven man panel constituted by the state Chief Judge, Sunday
Imo to investigate the six allegations levelled against Akomas.
The Speaker Agwu U Agwu who presided over the session read the report of the
panel which concluded that Mr. Akomas had had an amorous relationship with an
undisclosed female staff of his office.
The Speaker cited section 188 of the constitution that deals with impeachment
and in a voice vote the house unanimously voted for the impeachment of Mr.
