Ibirogba, NNPC Greenfield Refinery Boss Gets Global Endorsement
The quest by the Management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC
under the watch of its Group Managing Director, . Austen Oniwon to position the
Corporation as a first class global national oil company got extra impetus this
week with the news that it’s Group General Manager, Greenfield Refineries,
Adebayo Ibirogba has been nominated into the board of the World LPG
Association.
The World Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association is the authoritative global voice
for LPG and it promotes the use of LPG as a cleaner, healthier and more
prosperous world. Members of the Association are drawn from all aspects of LPG
industry including producers, consumers, manufacturers and vendors of
appliances, research institutions etc.
The Board of Directors of WLPGA is composed of nine members representing leading
players from the LPG Industry worldwide with responsibility for the overall
governance of the Association. Ibirogba, a chemical engineer and a member of the
prestigious British Institute of Management and the British Energy Institute,
MEI, would be joining other top executives of various global brands such as BP
(LPG) of UK, Repsol of Spain, SHV Gas of Netherlands, Ultragaz of Brazil and the
Indian Oil Corporation. The Board term is for three years which could be
extended by a maximum of one year.
Commenting on the development, the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs
of the NNPC Levi Ajupnuma described the nomination of Ibirogba as a global
recognition of the Transformation effort of the Corporation under the
stewardship of Oniwon.
"As you know NNPC is a full Corporate and financial member of WLPGA and was
formally admitted to the Industry Council in October 2009. The nomination of
Ibirogba at this point in time shows clearly that the global oil and gas
industry is paying great attention to the oil and gas industry in Nigeria with
special focus on the recent positive developments in the NNPC brought by the
bold attempts towards transformation,’’ Ajuonuma stated.
Born in 1958, Ibirogba was trained in the United Kingdom at the University of
Leeds, Imperial College of Science and Technology in London as well as the City
University of London.
In 1983 he joined the NNPC commencing a 27 year run of glorious career in the
industry traversing; refining, project engineering, petrochemicals, strategic
planning, international trading of petroleum products including LPG, retail
marketing, brand management and business development.
He is currently the head of the Corporation’s Greenfield Refineries Division
which is driving the NNPC’s desire to increase the nation’s refining capacity
through the establishment of Greenfield Refineries and Hydrocarbon Industrial
Parks across the country which will provide for the production of significant
volumes of LPG (cooking gas) in Nigeria.
Already Ibirogba has been listed as a panelist in the forthcoming 23rd World LPG
Forum slated for Madrid, Spain from 28th September -1st October, 2010 NNPC
