Ekiti Govt. accuses ACN of recruiting students to cause mayhem on Oct. 1
Ekiti State Government has accused the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state of recruiting students of some tertiary institutions in the State, Osun, Oyo and Ondo States to cause mayhem in the State during the 50th Independence Anniversary and 14th Year Anniversary of the creation of Ekiti State slated for Friday, October 1.
Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Wale Ojo-Lanre, who made this known in a statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, today, said “any attempt to cause breakdown of law and order in the State under whatever guise will be met with full force of law.”
The government said all security agencies in the State have been alerted on the sinister plot, which is part of the ACN plot to “make the State ungovernable before and after the judgment on the appeal filed by the party against the judgment of the Justice Hamman Barka-led tribunal.”
The governor’s spokesperson, who said substantial amount of money has been mobilized for the sinister plot alleged that son of a notable member of the ACN Central Working Committee (CWC) in the State, is one of the people recruiting the students.
“We have uncovered another devilish plot by the political desperadoes in the ACN to cause breakdown of law and order in Ekiti State, during the 50th Independence Anniversary and 14th Year Anniversary of the creation of Ekiti State on Friday this week.
“Some supposed students are being mobilized from Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo and Osun States and they are expected to move into Ado-Ekiti through Akure on Thursday night.
“The sole aim of this plot is to cause chaos in the State during the independence anniversary celebration.
“Those being recruited and the masterminds of the plot should however know that while the Governor Segun Oni-led government will continue to be civil and responsible in its approach to governance, it will no longer be taken for granted by any individual or group.
“Like we said before, let it again be reiterated that no individual or group, no matter how highly placed will be allowed to test the government’s will.
“We urge parents and guardians, especially those whose wards are attending higher institutions in Ekiti, Oyo, Osun and Ondo to be vigilant so as not to allow their wards to be used as tools of destabilisation by failed and cash-and-carry politicians, who won’t mind setting the entire nation on fire just to achieve their political expansionist agenda.
“On our part as a responsible government that must protest the peace-loving people of Ekiti State, we have alerted all security agencies of this plot. We will not fold our arms and allow people, whose only intention is to take-over government by whatever means to plunge our State into chaos,” Ojo-Lanre said.
