Information Boss Task Mboho on Unity Project
Ahead of the 2011 general elections, a foremost socio-cultural organization in the country, the Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, has been tasked to embark on grassroot mobilization and public enlightenment campaign in a bid to stamp out the current move by few politicians to introduce tribalism, blackmail and character assassination into politics in Akwa Ibom State.
The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Social Re-orientation, Mr. Aniekan Umanah gave the charge when he played host to the leadership of the organization led by its International President, Akparawa Nse Ubeh in his office.
The state information boss expressed worry over the activities of some politicians in the state which he observed were against the tenets of the founding fathers of the State movement
Mr. Umanah urged the Akparawa Nse Ubeh led Exco of Mboho to work assiduously to sensitize Akwa Ibom people on the need to eschew acts capable of undermining the unity of the state. He congratulated the International president on the successful and peaceful election, which brought him into his new office and urged other organization in the state to emulate the Mboho’s example.
The commissioner thanked the organization for identifying with the Akpabio led administration and assured them that the Governor meant well for the Ibibio nation and the entire state.
Enumerating the giant strides recorded by the Akpabio’s administration in the state within the last 3 years in office in the area of infrastructure, free and compulsory Education, quality Health care delivery among others, the State Image boss called on the people of the state to discountenance utterances by those who were bent on promoting a selfish ethnic agenda in order to score cheap political points.
He observed that in the history of the state’s creation “it is only in this administration that the governor has spread political appointments evenly with the Ibibio’s occupying strategic and majority positions.
Earlier, in his address the International President of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, Akparawa Nse Ube said the group was in his office to formally present to him the 8 th Exco officials of the organization which was sworn into office recently, after a peaceful and successive election. He also told the commissioner that Mboho was also in his office in solidarity with the present administration’s resolve to transform the state to an enviable height.
Akparawa Ubeh gave kudos to the Information Commissioner for working tirelessly to ensure effective Information dissemination across the state. He said Mboho was proud of the commissioner’s efforts in projecting the state on the global map.
The group re-affirmed its support to the second term ambition of Governor Akpabio, saying his achievements in office has surpassed past administrations in the state.
The International President also used the opportunity to call on the Federal Government to site a Refinery, an oil tank farm as well as a Federal Polytechnic in the state. He reasoned that the state deserves these facilities by the Federal Government given its huge contribution to the Nations treasury over the years.
Mboho also condemned in strong terms, recent utterance credited to Mallam Adamu Chiroma and some Northern Elders over their calls for the resignation of the President Goodluck Jonathan within 7 days and their allege call for his Impeachment. Akparawa Ubeh while declaring the support of the body to the presidential ambition of Chief Goodluck Jonathan in the 2011 General elections, warned the Northern Elders to desist from making such provoking statements, as the South-South people will resist any attempt to disparage them.
