Omo-Agege dumps PDP
A GOVERNORSHIP aspirant in Delta State, Chief Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned his
membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He linked his resignation to
the crisis that has engulfed the party’s state chapter.
In a letter to the National Chairman of the Party, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, he
stated that it had become clear that his political aspiration of adding value
to the governance of “my dear state, Delta will never be realised in such a
crisis-ridden and rancorous platform.”
The former Commissioner for Special Duties in the state explained that, “when I
took up the membership of the party in 2002, it was with the belief that the
dream of the founding fathers of the party will find accommodation in good
governance, internal democracy and the delivery of democratic dividends to our
teeming masses who gave the party their overwhelming support.
“Sadly, the dreams and aspirations of the founding fathers of the party had
been eroded over the years by abuse of due process, god-fatherism and indeed
intolerance of opposing views against the spirit of true and participatory
democracy.”
He said that the decision to resign his membership was taken after wide
consultation with his supporters from all the different political strata across
Delta State, in view of the rancour and crisis rocking the state chapter in
particular and the entire party in general
According to him, “I have come to the sad conclusion that the crisis of
credibility and illegality that has bedevilled the Delta State chapter of the
party since 2008 when an illegal executive was foisted on members without due
process of conducting ward, local council and state congresses in accordance
with the party guideline and the party constitution as evidenced by the INEC
report, has robbed the once popular party of all the goodwill and support of
members and voters alike.”
