SPORTS administrator Dr Amos Adamu’s travel passport was impounded yesterday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The suspended FIFA executive member is being investigated for alleged mismanagement of N24billion 2003 All-Africa Games funds and indictment in a cash-for-vote scandal.

According to findings, the anti-graft commission invited Adamu for questioning, following receipt of some reports and issues bordering on mismanagement of public funds.

Adamu, who arrived at the EFCC’s headquarters at about 10am, was still being interrogated as of 6pm.

A source said: "So far, we have confronted him with these issues and he is explaining his role and the extent of his involvement."

Responding to a question, the source added: "Since we have seized his travelling documents, it means that his movement has been restricted to the country, pending the conclusion of our investigation.

"The seizure of his travelling documents is in line with standard investigative practice. We want to guarantee that he will always be available for interaction.

"We are, however, going to release him on administrative bail. But from time to time, we will always quiz him on isolated clues."

Asked why the EFCC is investigating Adamu since he has filed an appeal before the FIFA Executive Committee against his indictment by the Ethics Committee, the source, who pleaded not to be named, said: "We have a report on that and we have invited him to explain his role to us. You know Adamu is still a top government official."

Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC Mr. Femi Babafemi confirmed the interrogation of the sports administrator. "Adamu is likely to be granted an administrative bail," he said.
