Delta begins implementation of New Salary Scale for Doctors

In line with the labour friendly posture of the Delta State Government, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has directed the Ministries of Finance, Economic Planning and Health to work out the modalities for the immediate implementation of the new national salary structure for medical officers and Health workers in Delta State.

The Governor gave the directive today at the end of a joint meeting of officials of the Delta State Government and representatives of the medical officers and health workers in Asaba.

Under the agreement reached at the meeting, the Delta State Government is to spend a total of 6.8 billion Naira to settle the outstanding commitments to the affected workers at 70% of the new wage structure in 2010 as mutually agreed last year while the sum of 7.5 billion naira representing 100% of the new wage regime would be expended annually, commencing from January, 2011 on the new structure.

Governor Uduaghan stressed that there must be judicious implementation of the scheme to enable Deltans benefit immensely from his administration’s health programmes.

At the meeting were the Attorney –General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner for Health, Information, Economic Planning and Finance.

 

The Chairman of the Delta State Chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association, Dr. Abenuwa Ossai led the representatives of the medical and Health workers to the meeting.


Meanwhile the Ministry of Health confirmed that the State Government has commenced the payment of all outstanding arrears of the workers for 2010 totaling about N1billion.
Commissioner for Information, Mr. Oma Djebah said Governor Uduaghan’s resolve to improve and motivate the human capital of the state informed the state government’s resolve to implement the scheme in total.

With this development, Delta becomes one of the first states in the federation to fully implement the new salary regime for doctors and medical health workers in the country.
