The Labour Party in Ondo State has dissociated itself from reported violence in the State saying that it has embarked on an issue-based campaign at all times since it has so much to showcase in its two years in office.

Speaking with reporters yesterday in Akure, Dr. Olaiya Oni, the party Chairman,  said any reported case of violence should be put at the doorstep of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the State, adding that any member of the Labour Party found involved in violence do so at his own risk and should be ready to face the music.

Oni said: “[I]n the last few days, we have been fully involved in showcasing our candidates to the people of this State through issue-based campaigns, devoid of violence and brigandage. In fact, we have had to share our time between campaigning in different locations and attending commissioning of completed projects of the Dr. Olusegun Mimiko-led Labour Party government of Ondo State that we have no time left to conceive, let alone execute violence.

“We have impacted all the communities, rural or urban, in the state in a profound manner that we can be rest assured they will vote for our candidates even with little or no prodding. From Monday, when we took time to attend to the graduating new generation farmers at the Ore Agricultural Village and the commissioning of their modern hostels to the official flag-off of the first in the series of our mega rallies, we have not for once rested in reminding the people of the goods we have delivered in so short a time and what we still have to delivered in the years to come.”

Speaking on the particulars of the impact of the Labour Party Government, Oni said it has in the area of health frontally attacked the twin problem of infant and maternal mortality to acclaim and praise. “The Abiye ‘Safe Motherhood’ Project has helped in reducing the highly unimpressive records of the State in maternal and infant indices, while the Mother and Child Hospital has become an intervention now being emulated across the country,” Oni said.

Oni who spoke in company of other party bigwigs said: “[I}n all other areas such as urban renewal, construction, housing and education, we have not only broken existing records but have set new ones that will be difficult to beat in times to come. More than all these, we have delivered more than 300 community projects designed to address the expressed needs of the benefitting communities.

“If we have done all these in just two years, we need no violence to defeat the opposition. Our achievements more than guns, cutlasses and cudgels as being brandished by our opponents, speak more for us and so we have no need to use any untoward tactics.”

Meanwhile, the party continued its campaigns yesterday with rallies scheduled for various locations in the Northern Senatorial District.
