With few hours to the gubernatorial elections in 24 states, there are indications that there could be some surprises in some of the states held by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while the gains of the party during the presidential elections may not be the case on Tuesday

There will be no polls in Adamawa, Cross River, Kogi , Bayelsa and Sokoto, due to a court of Appeal ruling. They have been rescheduled for between March and April 2012. Elections in Kaduna and Bauch were shifted to next Thursday due to the spate of violence in those areas after the presidential polls.

The Governors of Osun, Ekiti,Ondo and Edo have nothing to worry about for now, as no elections would hold because of the statute on tenure after the sack of previous helmsmen in those states.

As it stands the PDP looks good in no less than 16 states: Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger,Kwara, Jigawa, Kano, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, Kogi, Delta, Enugu, Abia Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River.

However, despite sweeping Lagos last week, the Action Congress ACN, seems set to capture Lagos considering the achievements of Governor Fashola who is ahead of PDP's Adegboyega Dosumu by over 70%, but Oyo and Ogun remain dicey. In Oyo, Governor Akala walks a tight rope considering the clout of ACN’s Abiola Ajimobi who has a large following. Akala’s problem is also compounded by Accord Party’s Rasheed Ladoja who is set to get a slice of the PDP votes.

Ikedi Ohakim has a formidable opponent in APGA’s Rochas Okorocha . Thisday Polls puts him ahead of Ohakim and ACN Ifeayin Araraume. He has 64 % to Ohakims 18 %.
In Ogun State, PDP’s Tunji Olunrin, according to Thisday polls, trails ACN’s Ibikunle Amosun with about 20%. Amosun has 55%, while Olunrin has 24%.

In Bauchi, PDP’s Isa Yuguda is set to have a tight race with CPC’s Yusuf Maiatama Tugar.

The CPC has its eyes set on Katsian, Bauchi, Nasarawa and Kaduana. Although Gen. Muhammadu Buhari did well in these states, Kaduan seems to be in the toss up category, as PDP’s Patrick Yakowa and CPC’s Aruna Kajuru are set for a tight race.
