Gov. Amaechi emerges Chairman of Governors Forum

Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State has been elected chairman of Nigeria’s Governors Forum. Governor Amaechi takes over from Governor Bukola Saraki who has served eight years as Governor of Kwara State and was elected a Senator in the just concluded elections.
Sources told Pointblanknews.com that his formal announcement will be made at a later date.
Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State who is the chairman of Northern Governors Forum, Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State and Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State had at different times indicated interest in the Chairmanship of the Governors Forum.
Although the group is not constitutionally recognized but the Nigeria Governors Forum says on its website that the group’s vision is “to be an effective proactive, bi-partisan lobby group which fosters, promotes and sustains democratic ethos, good governance in Nigeria and a shining light and a beacon of democratic values in Africa and beyond.”
