UBA Foundation holds Awareness Campaign on Prostate Cancer ...Provides free screening to the public

 Leveraging on Jogging to Bond’; the employee engagement of United Bank for Africa  Plc, UBA Foundation, on Saturday June 18 2011 flagged off an awareness campaign against prostate cancer in Nigeria and Africa.

The campaign tagged, ‘walk, jog and cycle against prostate cancer’ held in Nigeria and across the continent in the 19 countries where UBA has presence.  Apart from the walking, jogging, cycling along major roads and the subsequent aerobics sessions, there were novelty football matches tagged “Kick out Prostate cancer” at various venues. The novelty soccer match in Lagos was held at the National Stadium Surulere before a capacity crowd at the synthetic training pitch of the stadium. Team Red led by the GMD/CEO UBA Mr. Phillips Oduoza beat Team White led by the Executive Director Resources Mr. Kennedy Uzoka by 2 goals to nothing, in the exciting encounter.  Both teams were made up of male and female members of staff of UBA.

Managing Director, UBA Foundation, Ms Ijeoma Aso said “We are very excited at the response and support received by this initiative to raise funds and to create awareness for prostate cancer” The awareness campaign according to her is very necessary because prostate cancer which is one of the most common cancerous ailments in men can be cured if detected early. She urged men to take advantage of the free screening provided by the bank on the occasion.
