Deputy Speaker Tasks Ohaneze on National Unity and Stability
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha has urged Ibos resident in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to continue to exhibit good conducts capable of fostering security and a stable nation.
The Deputy Speaker made the assertion when the executive members of Ohaneze Nd’Igbo, Federal Capital Territory Chapter paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the National Assembly. The delegation comprised of representatives from Imo, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Delta, Rivers and Enugu.
Noting that these are trying times in the country given the spate of bomb blasts that have created a climate of insecurity in Nigeria, Hon Ihedioha tasked Igbo residents in the FCT to be law abiding citizens and indulge in activities capable of bringing about unity and stable democracy. He stressed: “these are challenging times in Nigeria. Ibos have made sacrifices to ensure the unity of Nigeria. We should endeavour to be good citizens, shun divisive acts and pursue activities that would bring about national unity and stability of Nigeria”.
Observing that over 50 percent of investments in Abuja belong to the Ibos, he emphasized the importance of security, peace, unity and stability in the country for the investments to thrive.
He advises: “If you have any grievance against government, forward such to us in the National Assembly, we will ensure that it appropriately gets to the relevant authorities, instead of taking laws into your hands”.
He assured them of liaising with the appropriate authorities towards ensuring equitable and fair distribution of affairs in FCT in the principle of Federal Character as enshrined in the constitution.
Leader of the delegation, Mr. Callistus Obi drew the attention of the Deputy Speaker to the lopsided nature of appointments at Federal Capital Territory Administration. He requested Deputy Speaker to reach out to the relevant authorities towards redressing the imbalance.
