FG moves to ensure Unhindered Access to Education
Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike has disclosed that part of the educational priority of the Federal Government is to ensure that every child has unhindered access to formal education in line with the Vision 20: 2020 Initiative.
The Minister made the disclosure at the weekend at the Graduation and Price- Giving Ceremony of Oak Heights School, Lugbe in Abuja.
He noted that free access to formal education had become a top priority of the Federal Government given that child education is a matter of right and the realization that education is fundamental to national development.
He stressed that education had been made a cardinal tool to the success of the transformational agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan and as such accorded a critical attention in this dispensation.
He noted his commitment towards laying a solid foundation for a literate nation. “Any nation toying with its education is laying a foundation for an illiterate nation and gross underdevelopment”, he emphasized.
He cautioned against gender barrier to education, pledging that he would accord girl education project a desirable attention to ensure that parity is achieved in the education sector.
Represented by Mrs. Adenike Ononuga, a director in the Department of Basic Education Mr. Wike advised the graduating scholars to be of good behavior as future leaders of Nigeria.
Former Minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Alhaji Sadiq Mohammed Abubakar spoke of the desirability of inculcating national culture and values in the educational curriculum to properly empower the future leaders.
