A massive sum of over N1 Billion has been set aside by some immediate past Governors , under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission ( EFCC), to force the exit of the EFCC boss, Farida Waziri.
But the major stumbling blocks to this plot, it was gathered, are Ex President , Olusegun Obasanjo, and Chief Justice of the Federation, Aloysious Katsina- .Alu. Pointblanknews.com sources hinted that Obasanjo who does not really like Adoke, is insisting Waziri's problem with Adoke is similar to what Ribadu suffered when Aondoakaa was Justice minister.
Said our source " if not for anything, Obasanjo has not forgotten the spoiler role Gbenga Daniel played during the last elections. He has vowed to ensure he gets dealt with by EFCC, the issue n ow is if Waziri leaves there is no guarantee Daniel will face the music, because these same forces have lined up favorites for her replacement. Obasanjo is not a fan of Adoke, so he has no problem opposing him on Waziri. "
The plot to kick out Waziri reached a crescendo about three weeks ago when Justice minister, Bello Adoke wrote a letter to the Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, where he demanded a clarification on wether Waziri left the police as Commissioner of Police or Assistant Inspector General.
The arrowheads are the ex Governors of Gombe, Danjuma Goje, Ogungbe, Gbenga Daniel; Osun, Olagunsoye Oyinlola. They are backed by some powerful forces within the presidential villa, who see Waziri as too powerful.
A high level meeting was held in an undisclosed location in Abuja on Monday night where finishing touches were put to strategy . It was also learnt that some very influential people within the President 's circle are wooing incumbent Governors who are either not interested or are pro Waziri.
Adoke had recently called for the merger of the EFCC and ICPC, insisting that the EFCC was becoming too powerful . He had also authored a gazette titled 'EfCC ( Enforcement) Regulations '. It states that the EFCC cannot prosecute any case that has international dimension, and involves money or asset of value exceeding N50 Million without first referring such to the office of the Attorney General.
According to our source" the President has told him ( Adoke), the move to bring every case of over N50 million to his desk at the Justice ministry won't work, because it will be better if the EFCC is scrapped than allow that"
Pointblanknews.com learnt that teams of investigators from the EFCC were already on ground in these states.
The fund , it was learnt, will be used for comprehensive media war. The area s to be covered will be anti Waziri editorials, commentaries, stories, interviews, etc. Part of the funds will also be used to bring into the camp those close to Jonathan but are not in support of the plot to oust Waziri.
" they are going to use the media to discredit the EFCC, and it's chairman, there will be adverts, columns, stories etc, just like the Petroleum minister, Deziani Allison Madueke's negative media before she was reappointed"
Said the source" there are those who feel the EFCC is not doing a sterling job. They are not seeing the bite Nuhu Ribadu had, but the desperation by very powerful forces is worrisome. The pressure on the President is huge, so he believes the Attorney General and friends of some of these ex Governors have some agenda. Ordinarily Waziri would have been gone but the President is not sure of the motive. They have budgeted over N1 Billion for the project. People like Goje , Daniel and Oyinlola are very much involved."
Pointblanknews.com sources in Abuja hinted that Adoke has not stopped the push to see her sacked despite the truce meeting between Adoke and Waziri at a private residence in Asokoro, Abuja.
It was learnt that Adoke was arm twisted by President Goodluck Jonathan to reach a truce with Waziri, because according to our source" the whole drama was becoming embarrassing to the president both locally and internationally."
According to our findings Jonathan warned Adoke to back off or get sacked. Said the source " you are aware the international community is watching and for the chief law officer of the state to suggest the anti graft points woman was a fraud, became really troubling. Don't forget, the international community had expressed worry at the pace of the war against corruption" |
