President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has assured President Bacai Sanha of Guinea Bissau that Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, will support efforts towards implementation of the regional body’s pledge to assist the socio-political rehabilitation of the country.

President Jonathan was speaking to Mr. Adelino Mano Queta, Minister of Foreign Relations, International Cooperation and Communities of Guinea Bissau, who brought a special message to State House, Friday.

He stated, “during our forthcoming meeting in September, we will discuss the issue and, with the help of our international partners, assist your country”.

President Jonathan said the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Federal Capital Territory would assist Guinea Bissau to open an embassy in Abuja, in order to further improve the already cordial relations between the two countries.

President Bacai Sanha’s message, delivered by Mr. Queta, included a request for Nigeria’s support towards the implementation of the Defence and Security Sector Reform Programme for Guinea Bissau agreed by the ECOWAS Authority during its Thirty-Ninth Ordinary Session, in Abuja in March, 2011.
