CLO writes Gov. Orji to clear air on Son's alleged brawl with Soldiers
The Civil
Liberties Organisation (CLO), has called on the Abia state governor, Chief
Theodore Orji, to comment and clear the air on rumours making rounds about
his
son’s alleged brawl with the soldiers of Operation Jubilee in Umuahia.
In a letter
addressed to Gov. Orji, dated 20th August, 2011, signed by the Aba
Unit Chairman, Dr. Charles Chinekezi, and made available to Nigeria
Newspoint,
the CLO noted that it had become obviously important for the government in
Umuahia to make a categorical public statement in order to clear the air on
speculations making rounds in the society.
The letter
asserted that the public statement would save the government from the
increasing
embarrassment which has continued to arise from the situation, stressing that
it could also go a long way to restore the confidence of members of the
public
about the state of affairs as regards the security of lives and properties.
“The CLO do
hereby, at the behest of public enquiry, request the office of the Executive
Governor to kindly issue a statement about the speculation in the entire
state
on the disagreement and quarrel which allegedly took place between Mister
Chinedu
Orji, the governor’s son and some soldiers of the Operation Jubilee
formation
in the state”, the letter read.
It would be
recalled that, in the last one month, rumours have been rife in the state and
beyond, alleging that the governor’s son, Chinedu was involved in a
brawl with
soldiers in an Umuahia supermarket.
Reacting to
the rumours making rounds, the Transition Committee Chairman, Aba North local
council, Chief David Chigbu, had during a town hall meeting at the council
secretariat, Eziama , attributed the development to the handwork of
detractors,
whom he said, are not happy with new vision being championed by the present
administration. Chigbu also described Chinedu as a humble and peace loving
person whose disposition does not fit into the picture being painted by the
rumour mongers.
When contacted,
the Senior Special Adviser on Media to Gov. Orji, Mr. Bonnie Iwuoha, also
dismissed the rumours , describing them as the ranting of the enemies of the
state, who are yet to come to terms with their rejection by the people of the
state. “There is no iota of truth in the rumours making rounds in the
last one
month”, he declared.
