UN international day of families; Youth Federation for World Peace organizes a one day lecture.
As United Nations mark the international day of families between 15-17 th May this year, Youth Federation for world Peace; an affiliate of Universal Peace Federation, an NGO with special consultative status at the United Nations ECOSOC in Nigeria at its 1-day lecture, Award and Dinner in University of Lagos main Auditorium, Lagos will commission few Nigerians with honour of International Ambassadors for peace on Saturday 15 th May, to be linked to United Nations’ self-help programme for the renewal of individuals, families and Nations
The United Nation Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon gave the theme for the year 2010 as ‘The impact of migration on families around the world’. Youth Federation for World Peace- Nigeria ongoing programme tagged ‘The Nigeria we want’ has chosen two sub-topics: ‘The family; an indispensable model for good governance, good leadership and peace in the 21 st century’ and ‘Divisible emphasis on ‘Unitary religion’; ‘State of origin’ and their challenges on unity when Families move around in the Nigerian states’.
The Guests expected at the one-day lecture include; Chief Ernest Shonekan, Former President of Federal Republic of Nigeria and his wife as Grand Parents of the day; Chief Amb. Segun Olusola, founder of African refugees’ foundation, as the chairman of the occasion; Professor Adetokunbo Sofoluwe, Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos as guest speaker among other eminent personalities.
This event will showcase three generations. Grand parents, parents and aspiring parents shall be represented to complete the flow of mentorship within the family. Twenty five representative couples and ‘aspiring couples’ who have been role models to youths in terms of family values in spite of their achievements as ‘super stars’ in their field of endeavors shall recommit themselves to their lifelong relationship by each couple sharing a glass of wine for a toast together. After which some distinguished Nigerians would be commissioned as international Ambassadors for peace.
The international Ambassador for Peace nominees were carefully selected by the National executive body of YFWP-Nigeria to an extent, in recognition of their past effort for Family values, peace and progress in Nigeria, but more importantly, it is a new global commissioning to the YFWP/UPF-UN Worldwide Peace building programmes which are designed to complement the mission of the United Nations. The list Include: The Super Eagles skipper; Kanu Nwanko and his wife; Professor Adetokunbo Babatunde Sofoluwe, Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos and his wife; Victor Ikpeba, former Super Eagles striker; Adaure Achumba, STV personality; Adeola Austin Oyinlade, University of Lagos law undergraduate, on air personality and researcher on UN MDGs who has been commended by the United Nations; among others personalities.
Youth Federation for World Peace continually showcases such demonstration of enduring love as active ingredient for sustainable peace; a model for fulfilling the MDGs and renewal of the United Nations.
